Claire. Therapy in Barcelona Collaborating Child, Adolescent, and Family Therapist in Her Own Words

I aim to help make change happen in people’s lives.

My name is Claire, child and adolescent therapist and mother from the Netherlands.

I lived 5 years in Singapore before my family and I decided to move closer home. We chose Barcelona for many reasons, amongst them its international character, the combination of city-beach-nature, and the culture.

What I love about living abroad is that it makes you grow as a person.

English and Dutch

Child, Adolescent and Family Therapist

Master Pedagogical Sciences, Graduate School of Child Development and Education, University of Amsterdam; Bachelor of Educational studies (Education and Child Development), University of Amsterdam.

What does working with me feel like?

Through a deeper understanding of my clients and their needs, I utilise a wide range of therapy techniques to develop an individualised treatment plan to meet the specific needs of each child and their families.

I understand the importance of working closely with the child, their caregivers and other professionals or agencies to achieve positive outcomes.

I aim to adjust interventions to suit individual clients best and have a holistic and solution-focused approach in which I also focus on the strengths of the child.

The tools I draw from are:

  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
  • Acceptance and commitment therapy
  • Social Thinking
  • Expressive therapies
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

Who can I help?

Children, adolescents, and their family when they need help to cope with difficult circumstances or are experiencing emotional or behavioural difficulties.

Depression  |  Anxiety  |  Social anxiety  |  Specific phobias  |  Panic attacks  |  Self-harm behaviours  |  Anger problems  |  Grief and loss

Behavioural problems  |  OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)  |  ADHD (Attention-deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)  |  ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder)

Self-esteem  |  Social skills and perspective-taking  |  Sleeping problems  |  School-related issues (including school refusal and bullying)

Before moving to Barcelona, I worked in private practice for 5 years in Singapore.

This has allowed me to work proficiently with children and adolescents from diverse backgrounds with a broad range of psychiatric and developmental difficulties.

Apart from individual and family support, I run groups that focus on Social Thinking methodology. Both in schools and private practice settings.

Social Thinking helps children better observe the social world and to explore how they can problem solve within their given situation.

Social Thinking takes children on a journey from learning about their own and others’ social thoughts to then learning to self-regulate their behaviour to meet their personal social goals (be included, accepted, etc.).

Why work with me?
