My name is Marina

I am a fully qualified Psychologist in Brazil, with a specialisation in Family Intervention and Mediation.

I lived and worked in Brazil, Perú and England before coming to Barcelona and fulfilling a dream.

I first visited the city when I was ten and fell in love with it. 

The road to get here has been full of challenges. Changing country several times, adapting to new languages and sets of rules, and facing economic and family concerns.

I feel grateful, because not only am I able to work in my profession, which I’m passionate about, but I can also do it in my dream city, Barcelona.

What does working with me feel like?

I have a tailored approach. I adapt therapy to the needs of my clients (adults, children, adolescents and families). I draw from Play Therapy, Art Therapy, Mindfulness, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

I use an IST (Integrative Systemic Therapy) approach at times. It functions at every level of your, your family’s and/or your child’s network (individual, group, home and organisational). And allows you to discover the changes you wish to achieve.

I base therapy on both verbal and nonverbal communication. I listen to you and also to what your body is expressing.

I employ creative techniques that encourage different ways to express feelings. When you have trouble expressing yourself, I shall use conscious parenting, playing, drawing, writing, painting, mindfulness, photos, books, cards, games, role-play and others.

My main areas of work are:

Since I was young, I have loved to talk and listen to others. Maybe due to this ability, I’ve always been able to put myself in other people’s shoes and understand them. Or maybe because I’m a sensitive person.

In any case, studying psychology seemed the natural choice for me. And I wasn’t mistaken, I love my profession.

After qualifying as a psychologist in Brazil, having specialised in Family Intervention and Mediation, I went on to work in the public and private sectors in different countries.

Was psychology my inner calling?

I am the eldest of three siblings. I enjoyed taking care of them and being around children. It nurtured the connection I’ve always felt with kids.

My parents separated when I was eight. This history of separation and the changes I lived as a result, are very much related to the work I realise with families and parents.

I have undertaken a journey as a woman. It involved a personal healing process that resonates with the work I carry out with women from 18 to 35 years.

I have been able to process my fears and traumas that had been holding me back, along with processing emotions in daily situations.

Therapy made life easier as I had an outlet for everything that stayed with me during the week.

To one extent or another, everyone is in need of therapy as not everyone has all the tools and knowledge to take care of their mind. Therapy in Barcelona offers therapy in different languages which is perfect for the foreign families living here.

Marina has helped us negotiate with our 11 year old son time limits for screens and for him to assume the responsibility of keeping track of his time. Also to negotiate household chores. We believe that our trying to impose these rules ourselves wouldn't have been so effective in such a short amount of time.

Therapy with Marina provided me with a supportive, understanding, and entirely judgment free space where I knew I was always safe to express myself.

I began therapy with a clear idea of what I wanted to address, and Marina helped me through each step. Not only did I address everything that I initially wanted to, but the sessions provided me with a great outlet for negative emotions.

I observed clear positive changes in myself, not only in my mental health, but also in my behaviour. I couldn’t thank Marina enough!”
