Having a child can be one of the most joyful moments in a person’s life, but it also comes with many changes and challenges. Research suggests that parenthood often lowers wellbeing.

Challenges can be exacerbated when you are doing it all alone abroad and without support networks. If you’re a mother experiencing stress, you’re not alone. Between adjustments in time demands, identity, finances, and relationships, it’s not easy. Luckily, our therapists are here to help with this exciting but oftentimes overwhelming life transition.

Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

What to Expect 

Therapy will help you talk through the many emotions and challenges you may be facing in a confidential, supportive and nonjudgemental space. Your therapist can support you in navigating your pregnancy, or your new role after birth, and all the mix of emotions you may feel.

Many concerns arise at this time: “Am I doing this right?” “I’m worried I am losing myself.” “I’m overwhelmed.” “I feel so worried all the time.” “Parenting is putting strain on my relationship with my partner.” “I feel so alone.” “I love my baby but I feel parenting is not what I thought it would be.”

One difficulty of motherhood is feeling like you don’t have enough time for yourself; therapy can be a wonderful gift in that it’s a chance to take a break from your hectic life and reflect. That said, we understand it can be hard for our clients to organise child care, so you are very welcome to bring your baby to session with you.
