SEX THERAPY

Enhance your sex life by tackling issues, exploring your erotic side and strengthening intimacy

SEX

Are you unhappy about the state of your sex life? Would you like to improve it?

Hormones may be playing a role (low levels of oestrogen or testosterone), and stress, lack of sleep, and alcohol are also contributory factors.

Perhaps relationship problems, low self-esteem and body image issues are at the core of your concerns.

Whatever the case, sex can end up causing you anxiety, embarrassment, and even shame.

And sexual health is an essential part of your overall emotional and physical well-being, so it is important to you to enhance it or recover it.

You could do with some help.

Yet just the thought of talking about sex with a stranger makes you uncomfortable

Maybe you are ashamed of discussing certain issues due to your education, culture, religion or a bad experience.

That’s why you have read self-help books and articles and tried the  recommendations, but they haven’t worked.

You are getting desperate because it’s causing tension in your relationship/s and lowering your self-esteem.

Imagine finding a sexologist that could make sex therapy easier for you

Who has plenty of experience to lighten up the mood and make you feel relaxed.

Therapy that will help you gain confidence in your sex life.

Because you will discover what satisfies you and you will learn to communicate your needs.

Because you will resolve and reverse sexual issues.

Improving erectile dysfunction

Are your quality of life and emotional health greatly affected by your sexual dysfunction?

Has the lack of intimacy due to your dysfunction created a rift between your partner and yourself?

Do you wish to have more control over your orgasms?

The two most common sexual problems in men are premature ejaculation and delayed ejaculation.

Stress, relationship problems, anxiety, depression, age, and trauma can be originating the dysfunction.

Reducing pain while having sex

Maybe you only feel pain at penetration (sexual entry)?

Perhaps you experience pain with every thrust?

Or the pain may even last after intercourse?

This can be the result of a physical issue like insufficient lubrication due to menopause or a low level of arousal.

Or psychological concern like a fear of intimacy that tenses your pelvic floor muscles.

How do we help?

Sex therapy may involve helping to manage emotions that play a role in the problem. We may provide suggestions or “exercises”, such as changing foreplay and eliminating distractions, for you to try at home.

Navigating polyamory

Are you having trouble setting clear boundaries and expectations with your partners?

Have you picked up a new skill and would like to try it with your live-in partner but are afraid they will get jealous?

Do you want to “open” your relationship but are uncertain as to how to do it?

How can we help?

In sex therapy, we will help you establish or recover open, honest and frequent communication.

We will determine boundaries and norms to navigate polyamory in a sex healthy way.

Embracing LGBTIQ+

Do you need to discover your gender identity?

Are you confused about who you are and what attractions and relationships feel right for you?

Do you feel uncomfortable with your sexuality?

Are you and your partner at different levels of sexual comfort at being out of the closet?

How can we help?

Sex therapy will help you explore, understand and enjoy your sexuality, whatever it may be.

Dealing with low libido

Have you lost interest in engaging in any type of sexual activity, including masturbation?

Do you never or only seldom have sexual fantasies or thoughts?

Is your sex life losing spark and affecting your level of arousal?

Easing performance anxiety

Do you worry about whether you are doing well or pleasing your partner during sex?

Do you fear your penis won’t measure up or your vulva is too big?

Are you experiencing changes in your body that are stressing you and affecting your performance?

Resolving issues with orgasms

Can you orgasm when masturbating, but not with your partner?

Are you unable to have an orgasm because you are insufficiently aroused?

Do you feel sex is disappointing if you don’t orgasm?

Hormones may be playing a role (low levels of oestrogen or testosterone) and stress, lack of sleep or alcohol are contributing.

Perhaps relationship problems, low self-esteem and body image issues are at the core.

Whichever the case, sex can end up causing you anxiety, stress, embarrassment and even shame.

How can we help?

Sex therapy can help you identify the root causes to work through them, discover your arousal preferences and needs, learn to accept and love your body, and teach you exercises to calm your mind when it races.

Managing internet pornography

Looking at porn is neither good nor bad unless it starts interfering with your sex life.

Has it impacted your confidence? It’s difficult to live up to muscled bodies and big penises or pert breasts and perfectly aligned labia.

Has it reduced your enjoyment? Maybe real-life sexual experiences no longer arouse you.

How can we help?

In sex therapy, we will help you express your sexual needs and discover how to improve your sex life.

Recovering after an infidelity

Has your sex life refuelled after an affair? You feel your partner is less likely to be unfaithful again if you increase your sexual intimacy.

Has your sex life become non-existent? You feel too hurt to think about having sex with your partner.

How can we help?

Sex therapy can help you rebuild trust and physical intimacy by working through emotional and sexual issues.

Facing relationship problems

Do you have a sexless marriage? You long to rekindle it.

Do you have different libidos? You wish to increase or decrease your sex drive.

Are you bored with your sex life? You need to spice it up.

How can we help?

Therapy can help enhance sensuality and sexuality by suggesting “exercises” that allow you to experiment at home.

Our sexologist will also assist you in understanding issues and working with your partner to achieve your goals.

Handling sex education

Do you want to learn how to talk about sex with your children? To be certain they are having safe sex.

Do you want to make sure they know about consent and that it’s not OK to take advantage? To ensure they are discovering sex in a healthy way.

Do you find it embarrassing when you have to talk about sex with them? Are you looking for someone to talk it over with them?

How can we help?

Sex therapy provides a safe and confidential space where your children can learn about sex.

Improving communication around sex

Are you indirect about what turns you “on” and “off”? This means you are unlikely to receive what satisfies you.

Do you struggle to express yourself without sounding critical or feeling embarrassed? And it ends up sounding ambiguous?

The best conversations about sex happen outside the bedroom. And communication can be the key to have good sex consistently because it’s a powerful way to deepen intimacy and connection.

How can we help?

In therapy, you will learn to talk about sex with kindness and honesty in a relaxed and safe space.

Coping with sexual abuse

Do you feel intense negative emotions when you are touched (fear, guilt or nausea)?

Do you have disturbing or intrusive sexual thoughts or fantasies?

Are you having difficulty with arousal and feeling sensation?

Do you prefer to have casual flings because the closer you get to someone, the less sex you want to have?

How can we help?

Sex therapy can help you with the healing process.

You may talk about how to make your sex life feel safe, learn how to deal with trauma responses in the moment and how to establish boundaries.

In Therapy in Barcelona, we have sex therapy specialists that can ease your path to fulfilment

Caring specialists

We go the extra mile to make you feel comfortable, relaxed and safe.

Confidential space

We provide a non-judgmental space where you can express any feeling you’ve been carrying.

Qualified therapists

All our therapists are qualified, have at least 5 years experience and use evidence-based techniques.

We have several therapists that can provide specialised sex therapy (Andres, Arne, Florencia , Sara and Donnie) and a sexologist and sex educator, Avril.

What to expect of the therapy process

Every person is unique and has unique concerns. That’s why, at Therapy in Barcelona, we tailor-make sex therapy and the therapeutic process to fit each client.

However, we can offer you a rough idea of what to expect.

In the intake appointment, we will discuss the details of informed consent and review your relationship and trauma history, as well as the factors that led you to sex therapy.

In the following sessions, your sex therapist will be looking to understand what sex used to look like, how it’s currently looking, and how you would like it to look. They will then set goals and work with you towards them.

Just in case you’re wondering, no, sex therapy does not involve sexual contact with or in front of a therapist.

Talking about sex can be awkward, very awkward

It can make you feel vulnerable. You are exposing a “secret” part of yourself.

You fear being judged. Because there is enormous pressure from society to be “good in bed”.

You may feel ashamed if you believe you are failing somehow.

So you push your issues under the rug only to find yourself frustrated.

No one is perfect in bed.

And no one is born knowing how to enhance their sex life.

Talking about physical and emotional challenges in a safe, non-judgemental space might be a first step towards a pleasurable sex life.
