I invite you to a creative, emotional, and interactive process, where there’s space for laughter, tears, and hope for a better life. It takes courage, but it’s worth it.

Hello!

My name is Hanna. I’m an Austrian therapist for adults.

I’m originally from Austria, but my journey over the last 10+ years has taken me through Canada, Denmark, Australia, Germany, and now Spain.

I have settled in a small town near Barcelona with my Catalan husband and our three kids; our multilingual family. We’re building a permanent life here. I love Barcelona for its people, culture, and the nature around it.

After years of balancing research and therapy, I now  focus my energy on being a therapist. I’m an expert in Adult Autism and at Therapy in Barcelona, I support internationals in navigating the challenges of life abroad, offering a space for reflection, growth, and healing.

Let Me Share a Powerful Metaphor to Help You Stay on Track With Difficult Emotions

What does working with me feel like?

A safe space to explore emotions. I ask you about your attitudes toward emotions and help you identify potential barriers to feeling and expressing them. I care about understanding your values, needs and boundaries.

Your goals and preferences are key. I strive to understand what you want from therapy. I aim to be transparent about ways to get there and encourage you to make deliberate choices.

I will be like a mountain guide. I might know the area and relevant skills, but you are the mountaineer who needs to decide where you want to be headed next, and at what pace.

Sessions are customised to suit you. I incorporate evidence based therapeutic frameworks like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT).

Difficulties that we can work on together include (but are not limited to):

Academic And Work Life, ADHD Management,  Anxiety (Generalised Anxiety Disorder), Attachment Issues (Relationships), Adult Autism,   Communication Issues, Cultural Adaptation, Depression Management, Direction In Life, Divorce/Separation, Emotional Intimacy, Family Difficulties, Fears (Failure, Success, Avoidance), Fertility, Grief, Loss, Bereavement, High Intellectual Potential, Imposter Syndrome, Infidelity, LGBTQIA+, Mild Personality Disorders, Mood Disorders, Motivation, Narcissism, New Parenting Challenges, Obsessive Thoughts, Panic, Peer Pressure, Perfectionism, Phobias, Pre- And Post-Natal Dads, Pre- And Post-Natal Mums, Procrastination, Self-Development, Self-Esteem, Sleep Issues, Social Anxiety,  Trauma (PTSD, Sexual Abuse, Neglect, Traumatic Grief), Work Stress Management.

As an idealistic—almost naive—young adult, I was driven by the question of how to make the world a better place. I first pursued political science, Italian, and international business but soon realised they weren’t the right fit. A summer of reflection led me to psychology, where I found a deeper way to contribute.

Since then, I’ve come to see that psychology does, in its own way, make the world a better place. It fascinates me because it reveals how we connect, relate, and treat ourselves—all of which shape the world we live in.

Drawn to how interactions influence well-being, I began working with autistic adults, helping bridge differences in communication and connection.

More recently, I’ve focused on interpersonal trauma, where disconnection runs deeper. Trauma can erode trust, yet I’ve seen that healing is possible—facing darkness together can restore connection, agency, and hope.

So, why did I study psychology?

3

fun facts about me

Avoiding my difficult emotions as a young adult only made them stronger. Learning to accept them using the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy has been very powerful.

I love the internet. It has expanded my world, connecting me to diverse voices, deep conversations, and endless learning—making life more open, interesting, and global.

I’m passionate about feminism and gender equity in parenting. Traditional gender roles, especially in parenting, don’t serve anyone.

what clients
say about working with me

Also to mention of note is the lovely Hanna Thaler who I've been seeing for a year now for my own personal trauma work and she has helped me in profound ways. I am grateful for the recommendation and the safe space that Hanna facilitates for me. What I particularly feel thankful for is being free to be a real human in our space - I cry, I pause, I ponder with no expectations of performance or showing up with any idea of what I need to say or do.

I highly recommend Therapy in Barcelona, and especially one of their therapists, Hanna Thaler. I have been seeing Hanna regularly for several months now, and she has been amazing throughout. She is professional, dedicated, and insightful, while also being incredibly empathetic and gentle on a personal level. She has helped me navigate a very difficult period in my life.

Hanna is very professional and organised, and easy to talk to. I can't think of anything negative about the intake process or the first session. All good.

Hanna has been very patient with me and she is a great listener. It has been so good to have someone to talk to on a deeper level since moving to Spain form the U.S. She challenges me gently when I need it, and has experience in many areas that pertain to my situation. It has been a great experience and I plan to continue our online sessions in the future.

very welcoming, very friendly. Had a good feeling

I felt at ease from the first moment and could tell the first parts of my story very open with the sensation of being heard and understood

Hanna was a perfect fit for me. She is very professional and has helped me enormously through some difficult moments. She's a gentle soul but also intuitive and not afraid to say what needs to be said. She's organized and gave plenty of information about where we were and where we could go, which I found invaluable. I’m extremely satisfied with the work we have done together over the past year and where my journey has taken me.

It was a great first session. I had the strong sense that I am talking to somebody who really knows what they are doing, and I also felt a good connection on a human level, making it easy to talk and open up.

Hanna is an excellent therapist, she is thoughtful, kind and very understanding. She helps to see the situation from a different perspective, feel it and resolve it in the best way it could possible be done. She’s an amazing listener and an amazing adviser, with helpful and unique techniques. I would recommend her million times!

Calming presence, I felt like Hanna was truly listening to me. It’s just the first session so it was a good alignment of expectations and energy.

Working with Hanna has been a joy — steering me in the right direction and asking the right questions. She's professional, friendly, and ready to help you tackle your challenges. You'll be in good hands.

A huge thank you to Hanna! I feel like we really connected, she listened and understood my difficult story while being so respectful and so candid.

Yes everything great. Since the first session also talks a lot about organising stuff, consent form etc.
